Physics program among the best in U.S.

Congratulations to the faculty, staff and students of the physics department at Cal State Long Beach!

The master's degree program in physics has been ranked among the Top 20 programs in the nation at preparing physics students for the workforce.

The American Institute of Physics recently released its report identifying 20 schools with the strongest professional master's degree programs.

The AIP report confirms that the top physics programs address the current needs of the economy as well as the academic needs of students in attaining specialized skills and knowledge. CSULB was named among the Top 20 and there is no finer compliment for our program.

The AIP report notes that successful master's programs such as ours have a combination of features that fall into the categories of internships, research and connecting the physics department to the world outside of the academic community.

CSULB was recognized alongside programs at Columbia University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Texas Tech University and the University of Washington.

The report by AIP also pointed out that recognized physics programs are needed because of the increasing demand for employees with scientific and technological skills who are also able to work outside of the academic setting.

This acknowledgement brings a great deal of joy and pride to the physics department, its blue-ribbon faculty and to the university.

Go BEACH!

CSULB President
