Police rate the best

I thought you might like to know that our very own University Police department was rated the best in a recent California State University system survey.

Most of those surveyed were students, although faculty and staff were also included. For those of you who have been to other campuses, you realize just how service-oriented our police officers are in providing the safest environment they can for students.

Cal State Long Beach ranked first among campuses surveyed on customer satisfaction in selected services, most particularly for its evening escort services from classrooms to vehicles. More than 93 percent of the campus respondents said that police services are essential to our university community.

Of the respondents, 95 percent stated that they feel safe on campus, ranking CSULB first among the campuses surveyed. CSULB ranked first in police service employee sensitivity to the cultural diversity of the campus. We ranked second in customer satisfaction in the important areas of timeliness of services and crime prevention presentations.

Our university police also received high marks for employee professionalism and helpfulness. Most of respondents, at 80 percent, felt that our officers are concerned about helping people to resolve their problems.

We are gratified with these results and certainly very proud of the hard working men and women of the department who have made it one of the best in the CSU system.

Our officers continue to meet regularly with campus constituent groups to monitor safety conditions and to ensure a safe learning and working environment for students, faculty and staff.

In the coming months, look for new and enhanced safety features around the campus.  Send us your suggestions or contact your student government leaders to discuss your ideas.

Go BEACH!

Robert C. Maxson
