opinion:
revelations
End of a long
term
When I began this
column, I was frightened that I would have nothing left to say
by the end of the semester. Surprisingly, I still have plenty
to say and probably not enough room to say it all.
I will begin with
first congratulating all my friends and even those of you
that I do not know who are going to graduate at the end of
the month. I'm sure it's been a long road for all of you and
I hope you succeed in whatever you choose to do in life, even
if you are still unsure what that may be.
I would also like
to thank and congratulate the students on campus who are not
scared to take a stand for what they believe in. I have heard
and spoken with people who have gone to protest the FTAA or
have rallied in support of Mumia Abu-Jamal or just simply
voiced their opinion when they wanted to be heard; and that
is what this country is supposed to be based on, right?
I've learned from
writing this column that it doesn't matter what you stand
for, the important thing is that you stand up for something
you believe in.
I am just as guilty
as anyone else of getting caught up in life so much that I
lose sight of the fact that there are problems in this world
that affect us all.
In writing this
column I was awakened from my slumber and realized that maybe
I could make a small impact on somebody else.
We all know that
sometimes you don't really know what's happening until you
hear it from someone else. This was the main purpose of my
column this semester: to let people know things exist and
perhaps move them enough to form their own opinion.
Finally, since
I am unsure of what I will be doing next semester, I would
like to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported
my writing, either by reading it, commenting on it or helping
me make it better. I would especially like to thank anyone
who has said anything positive about my writing, for giving
me that little boost of confidence that I need to continue
sometimes.
So, I think that's
it. Good thing this semester isn't a couple of weeks longer
because I probably would have run out of things to say. Stay
cool and have a great summer!
