Garcia confirms
concert
Staff reports
Associated Students
Inc. President Robert Garcia confirmed at the senate meeting
that there will be a concert in The Pyramid, but who will
be performing is a mystery.
Arrangements with
the artists are still being finalized but Garcia said he is
confident about making a profit this time around.
"If we get
who I think we're going to get," Garcia said, "We
will sell out."
The first Beach
Blast, which took place in November 1999, starred Reel Big
Fish, Black-Eyed Peas and headlined the then-popular alternative
band Smashmouth. Although much anticipation surrounded the
first concert at The Pyramid, the concert ended up losing
$56,260.
Also announced
at the senate meeting is that El Pollo Loco is scheduled to
open this week. The opening has been delayed by an undisclosed
issue with the fire marshall.
Although A.S.I.
has been anticipating a Round Table Pizza on campus for more
than a year, no plans for a date of opening were discussed
at the meeting.
Election plans
are also underway, but the senate will not approve the official
A.S.I. election packet until Feb. 14. However, working deadlines
are still in effect, which means that students interested
in running must submit their completed application by Friday.
Also announced is that the voting booth by the dance department
will be moved to the residence halls.
Another deadline
announced was for A.S.I. funding for academic and non-academic
groups for next year. The non-academic group deadline will
be on March 2 while academic groups have until March 9.
