study and prepare for finals

Time to pack up
the book bag, brew a cup a coffee and start studying for finals.
Patrick Mulleavy,
a study specialist at the Learning Assistance Center, said
there are three steps to take for effective studying.
Students should
organize material from the text and lecture notes. Condense
notes into the most important martial from the class. Then
do a daily review.
"Put it in
perspective," Mulleavy said. "Try practicing patience
and perspective."
Liberal studies
junior Michelle Avalos, said she studies five hours a day
one week before finals in order to be prepared. Her two main
study tools are study groups and guides.
The library will
be open later starting May 13 through May 25. Their hours
are;. Sunday, 12:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Thursday
7:45a.m. to 1 a.m., Fridays, 7:45 a.m. to 9:00p.m. and Saturday,
10 a.m. to 1a.m.
For those students
who plan on cramming for their final, Mulleavy said to make
up summary sheets of the material and predict the questions
on the test.
No mater how much
a student studies, there is still the stress of finals
Junior biology
major Emily Mina, said she a needs to have a quiet setting
to study for her finals. But she finds classical music stimulates
the mind.
"I deal with
my stress by taking things one step at a time," Mina
said. "I remember to breathe."
Mulleavy said a
good night's sleep, breathing excises and a good meal will
help a student feel better about taking a final. He also said
caffeine may keep you awake but is bad for your nerves because
it is stimulate.
