More than five years ago freelance writer
David Ulin relocated from New York to Los Angeles. In
that time, he compiled an anthology of essays, poems and
short stories by 37 Los Angeles writers. "Another City:
Writing from Los Angeles," published in September, went
straight to the Los Angeles Times bestseller list.

restaurants located in the University Student Union at
Cal State Long Beach.

seeks board position
Cal State Long Beach physics professor Simon George is
running for one of two positions on the state retirement
board, the California Public Employees Retirement System,
or Cal PERS. The deadline for state employees to vote
for the 13-member board is Nov. 30. George is one of 19
candidates on the ballot.

items hard to track
After the mourning and healing processes
of Sept. 11 had eased, the general public started to become
educated on subjects like terrorism and Islam, terms that
were not part of many peoples' regular vocabulary until
recently.
