Beach to host
NCAA regional
Staff reports
Long Beach State
will play host to one of four NCAA Women's Volleyball Regionals
Thursday and Friday at The Pyramid. The winner of the regional
advances to the NCAA Final Four Dec. 13-15 at Cox Arena in
San Diego.
Northern Iowa,
Hawaii and UCLA will join the top-seeded 49ers (30-0) in the
regional. Eighth-seeded UCLA (20-8) will take on ninth-seeded
Hawaii (28-5) Thursday at 5 p.m., followed by a contest between
The Beach and No.16-seed Northern Iowa (31-1) scheduled for
7 p.m.
The winners of
the two matches square off in the regional final Friday at
7 p.m. The contest decides which team advances to the Final
Four and will be televised by CNN-SI.

Easy victory
for Beach -- Long Beach State had eight players score
in double-figures and routed The Firm, 105-55, in a women's
basketball exhibition game Sunday at The Pyramid.
Ekuah Ramsey led
the 49ers with 16 points. Monique Whitfield scored 20 points
for The Firm, which suited up only five players.
The Beach next
plays Loyola Marymount in a nonconference road game Thursday
at 7 p.m.
Men to play
Pepperdine -- The LBSU men's basketball team travels to
Malibu today to take on Pepperdine at 7 p.m.
The Beach is coming
off a 71-56 loss to Texas A&M Friday. Rudy Williams and
Ron Johnson led the 49ers with 16 points each against the
Aggies. Williams leads the team with a 14.7 point per game
average and Johnson is second at 14.0 ppg.
The Waves (2-2)
upset UCLA, 85-78, Wednesday at Pauley Pavillion before losing
to Utah, 81-74, Saturday.
