Five 49ers named
MPSF All-Conference

Five Long Beach
State men's water polo players have earned All-Mountain Pacific
Sports Federation honors, the most for the school since 1970.
Senior Chris Segesman,
who led the 49ers with 37 goals this season and is fourth
on the Beach's all-time goal-scoring list with 165, was named
to the conference's first team and senior Justin Jewell (22
goals) was selected to the third team. Senior Scott Miller
(20 goals), junior Aaron Holloway (32 goals) and sophomore
Nathan Allard (18 goals) received honorable mention accolades.
The contributions
of these five players helped LBSU to a 13-8 overall record
this season and a fourth-place finish at the MPSF Championships,
its highest finish since 1983.
Stanford freshman
Tony Azevedo -- the son of LBSU Head Coach Rick Azevedo --
was named MPSF Player of the Year. Stanford's Dante Dettamanti
earned MPSF Coach of the Year honors and the MPSF champion
Cardinal placed three players on the conference's first team.

Wilkinson signs
letter-of-intent -- Haley Wilkinson of Australia has signed
a letter of intent to compete with the LBSU women's golf team
beginning next fall. Wilkinson has trained the past two years
at the Australian Institute of Sport and has won several tournaments,
including the Bargara Ladies Classic, where 178 players competed
over a three-day period.
Beach to host
pole vault event -- LBSU will play host to the Pole Vault
and Distance Carnival Dec. 9, an event featuring three of
the top pole-vaulters on the West Coast. Beach sophomore Connie
Jerz, who holds the LBSU record with a height of 13'1 1/2",
will be one of the three competitors. Others competing are
Washington State's Tamara Dile and San Diego State's Shayla
Balentine.
