Women 0-3 after
trip to Alaska

The Long
Beach State women's basketball team lost two games over Thanksgiving
weekend to drop to 0-3 on the season.
The Beach
lost in overtime to Northern Illinois, 73-66, in the consolation
game of the North Star Invitational Saturday in Fairbanks,
Ala., one day after dropping a 70-61 decision to Western Illinois
in the first round of the tournament.
The 49ers
built a 31-28 halftime lead against Northern Illinois, but
couldn't hold the lead in the second half and were outscored,
11-4, in overtime. Freshman center Jayme Conners led the Beach
with 16 points and Crystal Givens and Glory Johnson added
12 points each. Givens led the Beach with nine rebounds and
Tamara Inoue had seven assists.
Jessica
Shattuck led four Northern Illinois players in double figures
with 20 points.
The Beach
also built a halftime lead against Western Illinois only to
see the advantage disappear. The 49er led, 29-22, at the break,
but eventually fell behind by as many as nine points.
Jinga Gosschalk,
who led LBSU with 15 points, hit a three-pointer with two
minutes left in the contest to cut the Western Illinois lead
to 59-57, but the 49ers could get no closer.
Inoue added
12 points and six assists, Ekuah Ramsey 11 points and Johnson
eight points and six rebounds for LBSU. Erica Zielinski led
Western Illinois with 18 points.
The 49ers
return home to play an exhibition game against The Firm Sunday
at The Pyramid. Game time is 2 p.m.
