Mays seventh at
49er Classic

Tyler Mays finished
in a tie for seventh place and Long Beach State finished in
eighth place overall as a team at the 49er Intercollegiate
Classic completed Friday at The Zaharias Course in Industry
Hills.
Mays stood in second place behind eventual winner Alan Murray
of Toledo
after shooting 70-69 in the first two rounds, but struggled
to an 80 in the final round to finish at six-over 219.
Murray won the tournament with a five-under 208, holding off
Steve Shuert of TCU by one stroke.
TCU took home the
team title, placing three golfers in the top five and cruising
to a 12-stroke victory over second-place Toledo, 861-873.
LBSU finished at 902, one stroke behind Campbell and UC Santa
Barbara.
Other Beach finishers included Nick Seymour and Robert Sul,
who finished in a tie for 29th overall at 226.
The tournament concluded the fall season for the 49ers. The
teams begins spring play Feb. 4-5 at the Ping-Arizona Intercollegiate
in Tucson, Ariz.
