Soccer ends season
with 4-0 defeat

The Long Beach
State women's soccer team ended its season Sunday by dropping
a 4-0 Big West Conference decision to host Cal State Northridge.
The Matadors (12-3-2, 6-2-1 BWC) took a 1-0 lead in the sixth
minute on a goal by Melissa Cleal and built a 2-0 advantage
in the 32nd minute on a goal from Brynne Blumstein. Northridge
put the game away on second half goals from Shannon DeVos
and Leah Sims.
Matador keeper Jenny Willemse thwarted The Beach the entire
day, finishing with eight saves. Becky Ricci and Deanna Bender
led the 49ers with three shots each. For the game, the Matadors
outshot LBSU, 25-16.
Beach keepers Jihan Elgazzar and Hannah Cochrun split time
in goal, giving up two goals each while combining to make
five saves.
The 49ers (4-11-2, 3-5-1 BWC) finish tied with Idaho for sixth
place in the Big West.
Cal State Northridge stands in second place in the Big West
and will have to wait for the NCAA to finish its selection
process Nov. 12 to see if it makes the postseason.
