Long Beach State
dropped a 112-108 exhibition loss in overtime Thursday at
The Pyramid to the Los Angeles All Stars as the 49ers unofficially
opened its men's basketball season.
"We still
have a lot to work on," Coach Wayne Morgan said. "We
need to turn the ball over less and work on out defensive
rebounding, but I am positive that as the season goes on,
we will get better."
The Beach led by
as much as 11 in the second half, including a six-point lead
with 1:16 to play, but a late rally by the All-Stars set up
the overtime win.
The 49ers' starting
backcourt of Ron Johnson and Michael Darrett combined for
46 points, including seven three-pointers, but it wasn't enough.
Travis Reed recorded
a double-double for the 49ers with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
