Beach Weekend

• Long Beach State men's basketball isn't scheduled to start the regular season until Nov. 15, but the 49ers will play two exhibition games before the opener.

• The Beach will take on Los Angeles All-Stars tonight at 7:35 p.m. at The Pyramid. LBSU finished 18-13, including a 10-6 mark in the Big West Conference, last season.

• Also at The Pyramid this weekend is the top-ranked and undefeated Beach women's volleyball squad, which will entertain two Big West Conference foes. The 49ers (18-0 overall, 11-0 BWC) host Cal State Northridge (12-11, 5-7 BWC) Friday at 7:30 p.m. and No. 17 Pacific (19-6, 10-2 BWC) on Saturday, also at 7:30 p.m.

• Pacific currently stands in second-place in the Big West.

• The women's soccer team concludes its regular season schedule this weekend with two Big West road games. The Beach (4-9-2, 3-3-1 BWC) travel to Stockton to play Pacific (9-7, 2-5 BWC) Friday at 7 p.m. and close out the season with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday at Cal State Northridge (10-3-2, 4-2-1).

• Men's water polo, coming off a 10-5 nonconference victory over UC Santa Barbara, will take on UC Santa Cruz (12-11) in a nonconference game Friday at 2 p.m., then make the trip to Berkeley to play Cal in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

• Senior Chris Segesman could move into sixth of LBSU's all-time goal scoring list this weekend. Segesman, with 152 goals in his career, trails former 49er Kip Parsons (1992-95), who had 154.

• The Beach is 7-6 overall, 1-4 in the MPSF; Cal is 10-4, 3-3 in the MPSF.

• In club sports action, The 3-0 Beach rugby team will host USC Sunday at 4 p.m.; the LBSU bowling team is scheduled to participate in a tournament hosted by UC Davis in Davis Saturday and Sunday; the men's hockey squad is scheduled to take on Cal at Lakewood Glacial Gardens at 9:15 p.m. Saturday; and the crew team will participate in the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival Saturday at Newport Beach's Back Bay.
