Top-ranked 49ers continue winning

Cheryl Weaver and Tayyiba Haneef took turns pacing the offense this weekend as the top-ranked Long Beach State women's volleyball team downed Big West Conference foes Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside on the road.
 
Haneef tallied 17 kills and 10 digs in the 49ers' 30-17, 30-17, 30-21 sweep over Cal State Fullerton Friday at Titan Gym.
 
Weaver added 15 kills and three aces and Brittany Hochevar had nine kills, 10 digs and five blocks as LBSU (18-0, 11-0 BWC) hit .333 as a team.
 
Setter Keri Nishimoto dished 41 assists and had 11 digs against the Titans, while teammate Elisha Thomas' seven kills and six blocks helped the 49ers finish with 9.0 team blocks.
 
As a team, the Titans (8-12, 4-9 BWC) hit for a mark of -.009 in the match. Megan Sabo finished with six kills and Jaclyn Owen five, while setter Kim Levey had 20 assists and nine digs.
 
The 49ers notched its 14th sweep in 18 matches this season with a 30-19, 30-13, 30-22 decision over UC Riverside (8-14, 1-11 BWC) Saturday at the Student Rec Center. Weaver connected for 19 kills on 25 attempts to finish with a .640 attack percentage as The Beach fired at .378 while holding the Highlanders to a mark of .040.
 
Haneef finished second offensively with 12 kills while both Hochevar and Thomas tallied six.
 
Hochevar added two aces and four blocks and Thomas again excelled at the net with five blocks as the 49ers out-blocked UCR by a margin of 8.0 to 4.0.
 
Nishimoto had 37 assists with seven digs and four kills and Lindsay Phillips started the match in the front row and finished with three kills, three aces and eight digs.
 
Katie DeRoss paced the Highlanders with eight kills and seven digs while Pam Hartman had seven kills in the losing effort.
 
Big West action continues for No.1 LBSU this weekend as the 49ers face Cal State Northridge Friday and Pacific Saturday at The Pyramid. Game time for both matches is set for 7:30 p.m.
