BEACH WEEKEND

The Big West Conference cross-country championships and the last homestand of the season for women's soccer highlight this weekend's sports action.
 
Freshman Arturo Garcia and sophomore Drea Palacio have been two of the standout runners for the Beach this season. Garcia set a personal-best  at the Long Beach Invitational. Palacio has been LBSU's top women finisher four times this season and finished ninth at the Cal Poly Invitational Oct. 13.
 
The Big West championships will take place on Cal Poly SLO's Cuesta Fairbanks Park course.
 
Women's soccer closes its home portion of this year's schedule with two Big West contests against Cal Poly SLO (5-7-3, 2-1-1 BWC) Friday at 3 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara (7-6-1, 3-1BWC) Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games are at George Allen Field.
 
The 49ers (4-8-1, 3-2 BWC) are in fifth place in the Big West.
 
Women's volleyball continues its run  with two conference road matches. The Beach (16-0, 9-0 BWC) plays at Cal State Fullerton (7-11, 3-8 BWC) Friday at 7 p.m. and at UC Riverside (8-12, 1-10) Saturday at 7 p.m.
 
Men's water polo looks to improve on its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record with a 1 p.m. road game Sunday against UC Santa Barbara. The 49ers are 6-6 overall, 1-4 in the MPSF; the Gauchos are 6-7, 2-4 in the MPSF.
 
Women's tennis will compete at the Fall Regional Tournament in San Diego Friday through Sunday.
 
Beach singles player Anastasia Dvornikova and the 49er doubles team of Lindsey Marvel and Laura Thomas won titles their last time out at the CS Fullerton Fall Intercollegiates Oct. 13.
 
In club sports, men's soccer plays its final California League game Saturday against host UC Santa Barbara. The Beach sports a perfect 8-0 in the league and with a victory or a tie will automatically qualify for the National Championships in November.
 
Beach rugby will take on Azusa Pacific Saturday after opening the season with two victories over Cal Tech (14-0) and UC Irvine (43-0).
 
Beach crew travels to Sacramento to take part in the Head of the American Saturday and Sunday, while the 49er hockey squad plays Eastern Washington Saturday at 9:15 p.m. at Lakewood Glacial Gardens.
