Soccer unbeaten
after winning two

Long Beach State
has two undefeated and highly ranked sports programs on campus.
One is the women's volleyball team, but the other one you
might not know: men's club soccer.
The Beach, ranked second in the National Intramural Recreation
Sports Association Region 6 rankings, continued its strong
season with a sweep of two California League games over the
weekend.
LBSU beat Cal State San Marcos, 3-1 on Friday and UC San Diego,
4-1 on Sunday. Beach midfielder Dan Kolano scored four goals
in the two games and now is second on the team with nine goals
this season.
Kolano scored two goals in each game, while Hadjh Ahrms scored
one goal in each. William Nagano scored once in the UC San
Diego game for the 49ers, which now stands at 11-0-1 overall
and 8-0 in the California League with one game to play.
"We expected to beat [CS] San Marcos and the [UC] San
Diego game was a good barometer for us," LBSU Head Coach
Sanjit Toor said. "We completely outplayed [UC San Diego]
last year and lost."
Toor said the win over UC San Diego guaranteed the 49ers at
least second place in the California League and a victory
or tie over league-rival UC Santa Barbara Saturday in Santa
Barbara would give the Beach the league title.
If LBSU win the California League title, it will be awarded
an automatic berth into the National Championships to be played
Nov.14-17 at the University of Alabama.
But even if the 49ers lose Saturday, Toor is confident The
Beach will get an at-large berth.
"For all practical purposes, we're in," Toor said.
Still, Toor and the 49ers will be looking for a victory.
"A win against UC Santa Barbara shows how good you really
are," Toor said. "They're as good as a [NCAA] Division
I team."
Kolano's nine goals are second on the team to Tristan Corbett,
who has 10, and Toor said the two have pushed each other to
be better.
"They have a rivalry going back and forth [in the scoring
race]," Toor said, "but they're always assisting
on each other's goals."
Both wins for Toor's squad this weekend came on George Allen
Field, which Toor believes is a factor in the team's success
this season.
"[LBSU women's soccer Coach] Peter Reynaud let us use
George Allen Field this year," Toor said. "The field
has more true bounces and the ball rolls straight, things
like that."
Toor said another reason for his team's success is Reynaud's
team, which has shown up and even traveled to support the
club team.
"The women's team has helped," Toor said. "They
get the guys fired up, and when they're playing bad, they
get on them."
