LBSU falls, 1-0
Staff reports
A second-half goal
by Cal State Fullerton's Jenny Mescher proved to be Long Beach
State's undoing Friday in a 1-0 Big West Conference loss Friday
in Fullerton.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie until Mescher scored
in the 70th minute. After a Titan throw-in landed near The
Beach's goal area, LBSU's Amber Glende attempted to head the
ball out of danger.
But the ball came to Mescher, who put the game-winner behind
Beach goalkeeper Jihan Elgazzar.
Cal State Fullerton's Tennli Ulicny was credited with an assist
on Mescher's goal, which was her seventh of the season.
The Beach played the game without freshman Diana Sanguinetti,
who was out with a concussion, and spent much of the contest
without Becky Ricci, who was hobbled with an ankle injury.
Elgazzar made three saves for the 49ers, who now stand at
3-8-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Cal State Fullerton
is 9-5 and 4-1.
