top The Beach again

For Drea Palacio,
the strong finishes keep coming.
The Long Beach State sophomore cross-country athlete ran a
18:59.6 over the 5K-course at Cuesta Fairbanks Park in San
Luis Obispo to finish ninth overall at the Cal Poly Invitational
Saturday.
It was the second consecutive top-10 finish for Palacio, and
the fourth time this season she was LBSU's top female finisher.
Other 49er women's finishers included Molly Roche' (20:10.6,
37th overall) and Sharon Burnett (20:22.7, 45th overall).
Freshman Arturo Garcia was the 49ers' top male finisher for
the second week in a row, running the 8K-course in 27:56.3
to place 21st overall.
LBSU's Aaron Durham finished 27th overall with a time of 28:06.7
and teammate Brian Stehmeier placed 37th overall with a time
of 28:19.3.
The LBSU women finished the invitational eighth as a team,
while the 49er men finished ninth. Cal Poly San Luis Opispo
took home the team title on both the men's and women's sides.
The Beach returns to San Luis Obispo Oct. 27 for the Big West
Championships.
