Tennis kicks off
season
Staff reports
Long Beach State
women's tennis begins its season this weekend by traveling
to Fresno to take part in the Bulldog Classic, and 49er Head
Coach Jenny Hilt is looking for some good results.
"This tournament helps our girls get some matches under
their belts," Hilt, who begins her fifth season at the
LBSU helm, said, "and hopefully get some wins under their
belts.
"The first tournament is a good gauge of our players
and is also a learning period for [assistant coach] Hally
[Cohen] and I."
LBSU's Anastasia Dvornikova, who was named Big West Player
of the Year last season, is the No. 4 seed in the tournament,
and the 49ers entire squad will make the trip.
"There will be 12 to 16 quality players and the rest
will be a coin toss," Hilt said. "We'll go in with
idea of getting some good results. We have the potential to
win some matches."
The fall tennis season consists of players competing for individual
titles, with team competition coming in the spring.
"The team needs to focus now to prepare for the spring
season and the [NCAA championships]," Hilt said.
