Runners travelto
Stanford Invite
By Alisha Gomez

The Long Beach
State University cross-country team is preparing for some
tough competition this Saturday at the Stanford Invitational.
"It's a premier invitational," Andy Sythe said,
director of cross country and track and field at LBSU. "At
least six of the top 10 teams will be racing at this invitational."
With about 500 participants in the women's division, and about
the same for the men's division, LBSU is taking a new approach
to this invitational unlike the last one at UC Riverside.
"I would like to see the men's team run less conservative,"
Sythe said, "and the women to run more conservatively."
Sythe said the men ran too tentative at the UC Riverside Invitational,
but the women went out too hard early in the race, and this
time he wants to see them be less aggressive in their running.
"I definitely think this formula will work," he
said.
However, Sythe said that experience, which the team got at
the UC Riverside meet, is needed in order to make these kinds
of observations.
"We're looking to improve some marks," Sythe added.
"We have a lot of capable runners who could do really
well."
