Home cooking in store for LBSU

Staff reports

Long Beach State's women's soccer, men's water polo and women's volleyball all hold home-venue advantage this weekend.

The water polo squad takes on Pacific in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday. Match time is 4 p.m. at The 49er Campus Pool.

The Beach will look to improve on a 0-2 overall and MPSF record. Pacific enters with a record of 1-2, 0-2 in the MPSF.

Aaron Holloway leads the 49ers in scoring with three goals.

The 49er soccer team will look to rebound after a tough road trip last weekend that dropped its record to 1-4-1. LBSU will play Pepperdine in a 1 p.m. nonconference game Sunday at George Allen Field.

Freshman Kristin Travis leads the 49ers with three goals.

Women's volleyball hopes to stay on a roll when it takes on UC Riverside in a Big West Conference matchup at The Pyramid Friday at 7:30 p.m. The undefeated 49ers (8-0 overall, 2-0 in the Big West) are coming off a huge victory over No. 4 Stanford Tuesday.

Second-ranked LBSU is led by senior middle blockers Tayyiba Haneef and Cheryl Weaver, who have each garnered Big West Player of the Week honors this season.
