Farewell from the Chef

When I first started writing this column, I had no idea what to write about.

All I knew for sure was that I had an audience that was willing to read what I would print.  With that in mind, I managed to find something to write about each and every week.

This will most likely be the last time I am privileged with the opportunity to regale Cal State Long Beach with my thoughts on stuff.

Therefore, I just wanted to use this final column to shed light on things that should be addressed on this fine campus of ours.

First, this Forty-Niner staff works hard - relentlessly hard - to produce a coherent, informative and entertaining paper every day for free.

From the advertising staff to the reporters to the copy editors to the main editors, every level of this paper hustles tirelessly, usually, to bring the campus the high-quality publication that it deserves.

Keeping those things in mind, read the Forty-Niner daily - it's good for you.

Also, if you didn't already know, our university has a fine NCAA Division I athletic program.

Watch the basketball games, water polo games, volleyball games, soccer matches and any other sport I may have missed. The sports teams at The Beach are truly fun to see and deserve adequate recognition from their fellow students.

For example, the men's basketball team faced a tough challenge about two weeks ago against the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, who were Conference USA Champions last year, and barely anyone showed up to The Pyramid.

It would have been nice to see more faces in the stands cheering for their team.

Just as a reminder and added incentive, all home games for any sporting event are absolutely free to all students. So there really isn't any excuse not to go.

But if you really cannot make it to those games, then pick up the Forty-Niner the following day and find out all about it from the top-flight reporting of our sports staff.

Lastly, I just wanted to thank everyone who read the paper and my articles day after day.

Thanks, everyone. It's been fun.

Good luck on finals and God bless. The Chef hopes that all of you have a very safe and Merry Christmas.
