Dealing with stinging
stressors
Midterms are now here,
and everyone is stressed out. Everyone is worrying about
their grades and their future. My advice to everyone is not
to worry so much. I have several methods that can relieve stress.
When studying for exams, just do the best studying that you
can, don't over exert yourself. When you start falling asleep,
that's a good indicator that you should stop studying.
To relieve stress, do something fun that you enjoy. Spend some
time with close friends and talk to them about all the issues
that are going on in your life. This process is extremely therapeutic
and it will help you move on with your life.
Another thing you can do is enjoy a relaxing activity. Go to
the beach for a long walk or swim (check the quality of the
water for California beaches). Go to the gym and work out, strengthening
your body and releasing all the negative energy that has you
tense and upset.
Do something that you have never done before. Go skydiving or
get a massage, whatever your income permits. Go out on a date
with your significant other. Take your time, plan out a total
romantic evening with that special someone. However, remember
what you must do later that night, you may not want any unexpected
visitors nine months later.
Another word to the wise: Never let your "life drama"
or stress get you so angry that it makes you sick. This is not
healthy and even young people can make themselves sick from
stress. Believe me, I know.
I have been suffering from migraine headaches for many years
and I am finally starting to learn how to control my stress
so that I can prevent the headaches from starting. I always
try to remain calm in all situations, breathe deeply, and that
usually works.
As college students we must learn to manage our time and manage
our stress levels. Don't let stressful situations get you down.
Take charge of every aspect of your life, and please don't allow
others to control the stress factors in your life. If
you are stressed out, be that way because you choose to be,
not because you are stressed over someone else, just be in total
control.
Be good to yourself because at the end of each day, it will
only be you standing there, looking at you. Live life for you,
make yourself happy, do what you need to do to succeed.
