Last semester blues

Is it just me, or is it hard to stay awake in class? In my last semester of study at Cal State Long Beach, I am so wiped out.

I have trouble staying awake, and I'm not interested in anything I am learning. I have also been lagging in my homework assignments and on tests. What's even more ridiculous is that I am only taking nine units this semester.

Am I the only one? I feel bad sometimes when my professor is looking at me, and I start to fall asleep.

I think I know why students fall asleep in class. I believe that the professors should allow their classes to engage in interesting discussion, instead of just having the professor talk and students take notes.

But, students should help in this process by giving lots of positive feedback in class discussions to keep the levels of boredom down.

I have noticed that I have done better in classes where I was able to share my thoughts and views and engage in an intelligent discussion. I don't care what class it is, professors can make the class interesting.

That's why they go to college for all those years. Along with the help of the students, the classes at CSULB could be a lot more interesting, and maybe students wouldn't fall asleep.

Maybe intelligent discussions are not the solution to boredom in the classroom.  Maybe the semesters should be shorter.  I believe that 15 weeks is just too long to sit in the classroom.

The semester should be only about eight weeks long. This way, students could spend less time in college, and move into careers.

Another solution could include video games and a full bar in the classroom.

I don't know what the real solution could be, but if anyone else out there knows, please write and let me know. If this is your last semester and you just can't take it anymore, please write.

Let me know about what you are going through so I can include some of it in the next column.

I know I must get out of this slump.  All of us veterans must get out of the slump, or we won't graduate.  I don't know about everyone else, but I will graduate no matter what I have to do.
