Tips for good study spots

By William Marshall
On-line Forty-Niner

With the last days of regular classes over and finals week upon us, we as students are faced with the horrifying task of studying for finals. Final exams can either make or break a semester grade in many cases, so students must study and study hard, but where is it best place to get the most out of cramming for the big tests?

"I normally study at a coffee shop right by my house in Huntington," said psychology freshman Sebastian Marcos. "It's pretty quiet there, so I can get a lot done and there's usually some good looking girls there that I can check out."

Here on campus, there are plenty of secluded spots to get your study on if you need a quick cram session right before a test.

"I'll usually just go to the library, I think it's the quietest place to get some work done at school," said Kurt Thayer, a computer science junior. "I used to hang out and study in the Union, but there's so much going on there that I tend to get to distracted."

And with the library's extended hours during the weeks from Dec. 2 through Dec. 13, students can study to their hearts content through the wee hours of the morning. The hours are Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.

A place that probably should be avoided during finals weeks would be the Nugget.

"I tried to study in the Nugget one year, but I ended up just getting drunk with everyone else in there instead. That probably wasn't the best place to try to get stuff done," said English sophomore Jamie Tworkowski.

With many different options for places to study in and around campus, there should be no excuse for any Cal State Long Beach students to do poorly on his or her exams. It seems that the best thing to do is to find an atmosphere that suites you best, buckle down and study hard. Most importantly, be relaxed, have fun and good luck!
