Roll the dice,
land in Las Vegas lights

To some it is a
place for lost money and bad memories. But to others it is
a mini vacation where school and work are ignored and forgotten.
Located four hours down Interstate 15 is the desert oasis
of Las Vegas. Bright lights and beautiful resort casinos
welcome the Las Vegas visitor in style. Whether a spontaneous
trip occurs or serious planning is involved to the city that
never sleeps, Las Vegas has much to offer for table player-type
or the nightclub personality.
As the year comes quickly to a close, rooms are getting scarce.
The holiday season is always expected to be more expensive
and more crowded.
If Las Vegas is your final destination for New Year's Eve,
try finding rooms in hotels off the Strip, which will be cheaper
than those rooms found on the bustling street.
If you are looking for a cheap weekend away try staying at
the Holiday Inn Boardwalk Casino. They offer $.99 margaritas
and daiquiris and in their sports books area are $.50 tacos.
There are also cheap tables at the Boardwalk with $1 roulette
tables and $3 blackjack.
"For the best deals in rooms, drinks and gambling go
to the Boardwalk," said Tom McNamee, a senior English
major.
For those interested in the club and nightlife scene Las Vegas
has to offer, there are many different venues in the resorts
that all differ in theme and music selection. Before trying
to get into any of these locations make sure you pay attention
to the dress codes each club requires. Also, most of
the nightclubs on the strip require that attendants are 21
and over.
Studio 54, located in the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, is a
two-level nightclub right out of the movie that plays a variety
of trance and hip-hop music. Admittance for ladies is free
but guys have to pay $20 to get in.
"Studio 54 is crazy, but it is so fun," said Julia
Sirianni, senior liberal studies major. "Get there
early on Fridays and Saturdays so that you can definitely
get in."
Ra, located in the Luxor Hotel and Casino has a futuristic
Egyptian motif. Deep house, techno and top-40 music livens
up the atmosphere. At Ra, ladies are $5 and guys are $15.
This Friday, the New York New York Hotel and Casino is scheduled
to open Coyote Ugly, a new addition to the nightlife of Las
Vegas.
If clubs are not of interest, there is still great shopping
in Caesar's Palace in the Forum Shops and at the Aladdin Resort
and Casino in the Desert Passage shops. Every hotel and casino
on the Las Vegas Strip has something to show off. Visit
the different hotels and see how they contribute to the Las
Vegas atmosphere that the city is famous for.
Websites like www.lasvegas.com
and www.expedia.com
give full hotel room availability and offer deals for many
of the hotels. Sometimes you can find better deals online
than you can by calling the hotel to make reservations.
Remember that rooms during the week will be cheaper than they
will be on the weekends.
