Collision at The
Pyramid

Three cars - all
driven by Cal State Long Beach students - collided into each
other on Merriam Way across from the main entrance of The
Pyramid Tuesday afternoon, according to University Police
Officer Chris Schivley.
A green Mazda pickup
truck made an illegal left turn out of a Lot 13 exit where
a "right turn only" sign was posted. While the truck attempted
to head southbound on Merriam Way, a white Chevrolet Blazer
was traveling in the same direction in the right lane of the
street, Schivley said.
"As far as I know
at this time, when the truck came across, the driver failed
to yield to the Blazer," Schivley said. "When the car struck
the Blazer, the Blazer pushed into the Mercury Sable, which
was parked at a dead stop there facing east."
Fortunately, there
were no injuries reported and no complaints of pain from any
of the students involved with the accident, Schivley said.
However, the Mazda
and the Blazer had to be towed due to the extent of the damage.
The Mercury sustained the least amount of damage and was able
to drive away, according to Schivley.
In addition, three
University Police squad cars arrived at the scene of the accident,
while about a half dozen witnesses waited for the University
Police to assist those involved in the collision.
"I was just shaken
up, I couldn't believe what just happened," said eyewitness
Toby Mullen, who was driving behind the Blazer.
