Moving beyond CSULB

By Tom Carey
On-line Forty-Niner

For those students who missed a college scholarship the first time a second chance is just around the corner.

Cal State Long Beach's Education Equity Program is hosting a Graduate and Professional School Day at the Speaker's Platform in front of the University Bookstore Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students can find out ways to earn post-graduate scholarships at the fair, said Bobbie Rodgers, counselor for the Equal Opportunity Program.

Representatives from over 100 universities across the country will be on hand to answer any questions students might have.

Schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, social work, education and optometry from major universities will be present.

"Fourteen law schools, including Pepperdine and Berkeley, will also be on campus," Rodgers said.

College representatives will be able to give students the opportunity to find out what type of grade point averages, and requirements are needed for admissions and scholarships.

"The fair gives students an opportunity to connect with faculty from the universities to find out what kind of grades are required," said Ruby Leavell-Hartley, the academic and career counselor coordinator of the Career Development Center.

Students who are not sure if they have the money to pursue a post graduate education, will be able to discuss financial aid and housing questions with representatives Leavell-Hartley said.

The CSULB graduate school of social work and school of gerontology will be on hand to compliment the other universities, according to Rodgers.

The graduation fair is open to all students. Freshmen and sophomores are strongly encouraged to attend the fair to get the upper hand on admission requirements while they still have a chance.
