Famed freedom
fighter to speak

Marcia Beauchamp
from the Freedom Forum First Amendment Center will speak on
campus Monday, thanks to the Odyssey Project sponsored by
the College of Education.
Beauchamp is the
Religious Freedom programs coordinator for the Freedom Forum
First Amendment Center in San Francisco. Her speech
is titled, "Rights, Responsibilities and Respect: A Civic
Framework for Living with Our Deepest Differences."
The First Amendment
Center is an independent affiliate of The Freedom Forum, an
international foundation that is dedicated to First Amendment
rights. The First Amendment Center works to preserve
and protect First Amendment freedoms through information and
education.
The center serves
as a forum for the study and exploration of free-expression
issues, including freedom of speech.
Beauchamp is responsible
for coordinating the efforts of the California 3Rs Project
(Rights, Responsibilities, and Respect) the largest of the
state education projects sponsored by the First Amendment
Center. Beauchamp has taught high school government
and economics, as well as a college course in social issues.
Beauchamp will
be speaking Monday, Sept. 24 in Multi-Media 200 from 11 a.m.
to 12:15 p.m. A workshop will be held for teachers at 4 p.m.
in the North Campus Center.
