Famed freedom fighter to speak

By Kimberly Pasquis
On-line Forty-Niner

Marcia Beauchamp from the Freedom Forum First Amendment Center will speak on campus Monday, thanks to the Odyssey Project sponsored by the College of Education.

Beauchamp is the Religious Freedom programs coordinator for the Freedom Forum First Amendment Center in San Francisco.  Her speech is titled, "Rights, Responsibilities and Respect: A Civic Framework for Living with Our Deepest Differences."

The First Amendment Center is an independent affiliate of The Freedom Forum, an international foundation that is dedicated to First Amendment rights.  The First Amendment Center works to preserve and protect First Amendment freedoms through information and education.

The center serves as a forum for the study and exploration of free-expression issues, including freedom of speech.

Beauchamp is responsible for coordinating the efforts of the California 3Rs Project (Rights, Responsibilities, and Respect) the largest of the state education projects sponsored by the First Amendment Center.  Beauchamp has taught high school government and economics, as well as a college course in social issues.

Beauchamp will be speaking Monday, Sept. 24 in Multi-Media 200 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. A workshop will be held for teachers at 4 p.m. in the North Campus Center.
