A.R.T. majors
In hip-hop music
By Joe Licavoli

Many hip-hop fans
may think there's nothing new or exciting in the world of
the freestyle music source, but this is because they have
not been introduced to Authentic Reflection of Talent, aka
A.R.T.
Bringing together four intense lyricists and one soulful vocalist
with the band's drummer, guitarist, bassist, and disc jockey,
A.R.T. aims to visualize the hip-hop experience for students
of Cal State Long Beach this Saturday at Christmas Fest.
Deshawn Tibbs, aka D-tail, said the majority of the members
started playing together because they were friends.
"We all just came together over the years and formed
a friendship," D-Tail said. "We're all connected
through family."
So why should busy college students of CSULB check out an
A.R.T. show on of all days, a Saturday? "I know a lot
of people have important things to do on Saturday, it's almost
Christmas time, but they should come here if they want to
hear some real hip-hop," said D-Tail. "We don't
represent killing, cars and chains; we're all about peace,
love and strength."
On this note, the lyrics in the group's songs are very expressive
in the way they view life.
"We basically reflect each others' artistic point,"
said D-Tail. "Whether it's literary, visually or musically,
we combine our art."
A.R.T. is not just based in music, they extend their artistic
ability to designing their own shirts and hats. The members
of the group all have different artistic talents and bring
those talents in to form one positive unit.
Whether you are a fan of hip-hop or not, make sure you don't
miss your chance to check out a great hip-hop show. Kappa
Psi Epsilon will host Christmas Fest this Saturday from 10
a.m. to 8 p.m. at the University Student Union first floor
and the Friendship Walk.
