Musical warfare
to clash sounds
By Greg Smith

Music lovers will converge tonight when the Cal State Long
Beach Associated Students, Inc., presents "Battle of the Bands"
at the Nugget. Five bands, all with at least one member that
attends CSULB, will be performing 20-minute sets for a crowd
that coordinator Josh Edrington expects will overflow the
on-campus eatery.
"It's gonna be
a lot of fun. We have a high quality show that is for the
students and by the students," Edrington said.
The winner of the
battle will receive a $1,000 prize, as well as being tapped
to perform in the Carpenter Center for the Long Beach mayoral
debate, Nov. 26. The winner will be determined by audience
applause, as well as by a panel of five judges.
Edrington said
he received hundreds of demo tapes from bands and he and a
panel narrowed it down to the five performing bands.
Performing will
be: Champion the Average, an indie-rock band; Cinder, a hard-rock/metal
outfit; punk bands GTC and Hey Stroker and reggae-alternative
band Chapter 11. Chapter 11 played the noontime concert on
campus Monday.
KBEACH DJ John
Ancheta will be spinning between each set, Edrington said.
Admission to Battle of the Bands is free and the bar and restaurant
will be open. The show starts at 6 p.m.
