'SEVEN DANCEs'
ready to take stances
By Michelle Redsar
Special to the On-line Forty-Niner
The Dance Center
Dancers will present "SEVEN DANCEs/seven choreographers"
with guest artist Andrea E. Woods at the Martha B. Knoebel
Theatre starting today.
Audiences will
see Cal State Long Beach dance majors perform the choreographed
works of CSULB dance faculty and guest artists in the genres
of ballet, character, and jazz.
Woods is a former
member of the Bill T. Jones and Arnie Dance Company and is
in residence in the CSULB dance department this semester.
Woods will put on "Continuous Replay," a work originally
choreographed by Arnie Zane.
Alaine Haubert,
Keith Johnson, Susan McLain, Douglas Nielsen and Andrew Vaca
will be choreographing, along with Woods.
Haubert has chosen
"Odalisque," a piece that brings to mind the mystery
and sensuality of temple dancers and harems.
Johnson, who has
recently returned to CSULB after a two-year leave of absence
to tour with the Doug Varone and Dancers, has chosen to choreograph
"Outside Looking Up."
McLain will restage
a performance for nine dancers called "Fight or Flight."
"Waiting for the Romaza to Fade" is a new dance
Nielson chose to restage and will be accompanied by pianist,
Alan Terricciano. Finally, Vaca's contribution will be an
exciting new jazz dance titled "Unfrozen Arrhythmia."
Parking for the
concert is in Lot 12, off Atherton Street between Bellflower
Boulevard and Palo Verde Avenue. There will be a $3 parking
fee.
