'Scarlet' blooms
in L.B.

The Musical Theatre
West kicks of its 49th season with the 1998 Tony nominee "The
Scarlet Pimpernel." Nominated for best musical, the production
has everything from bribery to deception.
The plot revolves around an English aristocrat who risks his
life to enter France and save people from being executed by
Madame Guillotine. However, he must keep his identity a secret
to everyone around him. A story of romance, intrigue and comedy,
"The Scarlet Pimpernel" is currently being performed
at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.
Wayne Bryan is the director for the musical and previously
directed "Children of Eden" for Musical Theatre
West. He has received the Joseph Jefferson Award for "Tintypes"
and a Los Angeles Drama-Logue Aware for the production of
"Where's Charley?"
Musical director for "The Scarlet Pimpernel" is
Michael Borth and choreographer is Julie Letsche. A full orchestra,
elaborate sets and costumes from the Broadway tour production
will be apart of the musical.
Remaining performances are on Oct. 25, 26, 27 and Nov. 1,
2, 3 at 8:00 p.m. "The Scarlet Pimpernel" will be
performed at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 21, 27, 28 and Nov. 3, and
4. On Oct. 28, a 7:00 p.m. performance will also take place.
