Earthdance sprouts peace

By Christine Shin
On-line Forty-Niner

Close your eyes: Imagine people of the world uniting together for a cause that may soon be depleted from our existence.

Tune out everyday noise:  Hear the whispered prayers for a global awakening.

In a vision to get the whole world dancing in support of peace, Earthdance held its fifth annual global party Saturday in 45 countries from Argentina to Yugoslavia.

While some acted out in violence during protests against terrorism and the U.S., others opted for a more eclectic and spiritual approach.

The local unity of peace visionaries gathered at the Hansen Dam Recreational Park in Lake View Terrace. The outdoor setting provided an open playground and dance floor for performers, disc jockeys, artists, volunteers and party-goers alike. Families brought their children and dogs along for the all-day festival filled with good music and good times.

Every DJ in every city linked together with a special track called, "The Prayer for Peace" to unite all 100 participating cities through music and meditation. The global link-up was a powerful moment that uplifted spirits and reminded everyone of Earthdance's vision for planetary peace.

Deep orange hues casted through the trees and onto the dance floor, as the celebration continued through sunset and into the twilight. Free-spirited dancers outlined the grass perimeter of the amphitheatre, as if protecting the positive vibes filled from the day from escaping the night.

Los Angeles Earthdancers grooved to the sounds of Electric Skychurch, Tarrentella & Redanka, Donald Glaude, Taylor, John Kelley, Freddy Be, DJ Soul and Jason Bentley.

All proceeds from the Earthdance collective went to five global causes including the freedom of Tibet, the environment, indigenous tribes, welfare of children and inner city issues.
