Cafe of Crepes
offers tasty French escapes
By Alisha Gomez
On-line Forty-Niner
With its cozy environment,
La Creperie Cafe provides its guests with a charming dining
experience. The restaurant's design feels very comfortable
and welcoming unlike other restaurants that have a cold and
"chain" feel to them. It is the only one of its
kind in this area. The quality of the food is superb.
Located in Belmont
Shore, Second Street is a perfect place for shopping and dining.
Plenty of restaurants fill up with people laughing, drinking,
eating and having a great time. Amid all of this, the tiny,
quaint, French cafe produces the most fabulous crepes
The atmosphere
is cafe-style, very French, tucked away from the usually bustling
streets crowded with people. Paintings by Vincent Van Gogh
and other artists are hung throughout the cafe. Stools are
propped by windows for diners to eat and people watch at the
same time. Pull up a chair at their counter to grab a quick
bite to eat. Wherever you sit, the aroma of the appetizing
crepes fills your nose and prepares your tastebuds for what's
to come.
One of the best
things about La Creperie Cafe is that you can watch all the
crepes being made. The chef performs his art behind a tiny,
glass-covered cooking area. Diners feel like they are no longer
in Long Beach, but transported to a tiny village in France.
You can watch as the artist creates his art.
La Creperie Cafe
has more than 40 different kinds of crepes, and you can make
your own if you wish. Choose from savory crepes to sweet crepes
to even breakfast crepes. Any type you want, you can have
at the cafe.
Savory crepes are
not sweet, more of something you would eat as a meal as opposed
to a dessert. They can have chicken, cheese, artichokes, spinach,
red peppers, salsa onions; almost anything you can think of.
These too can be created on your own.
For vegetarians,
the café has a savory crepe without chicken. Also try
the La Paris. It has chicken, feta cheese, spinach and red
peppers. The mixture of all the foods creates a truly scrumptious
taste in your mouth.
The breakfast crepes
have everything from eggs to blintz cheese in them. They are
served all day long.
If you like sweet
foods, go for a sweet crepe. A favorite is the Marie Antoinette,
which is bursting with Nutella, strawberries, bananas, and
Bailey's Irish Cream.
Don't like the
really sweet crepes? Try one without Nutella, the chocolate
peanut butter mixture that is in most of them. Try their fresh
fruit crepe. Nothing but fresh fruit, and whip cream is in
this one.
There are so many
to choose from that no one could ever get bored. Iced mochas,
tea and other yummy beverages can be served alongside the
crepes. Eat outside and enjoy the day. While it does take
time to make such a delicatessen, the wait is well worth it
and with the pleasant atmosphere you will not even realize
the time.
If you are looking
for a great dining experience, then give this place a whirl.
The food is reasonably priced. The service is very friendly.
The smell alone will make your mouth water as you wait for
your food.
La Creperie Cafe
is located at 5110 E. 2nd St. Since the place is small, expect
it to always be busy. Take a friend and share a savory crepe
and then a sweet crepe for dessert. You will walk away completely
content.
