Are you graduating
this year? Are you interested in a career in teaching?
If you answered yes to these questions, then there is an opportunity
for you to make a teaching career a reality at this year's
job fair.
Many employers
will be on hand at the Cal State Long Beach job fair today
at the University Student Union. Several school districts
will be on hand looking for new teachers, including the Los
Angeles and Long Beach Unified School Districts.
According to Peggy
Murphy Hayden, a coordinator for the job fair, this will be
a large job fair, and the LAUSD has full-time teaching positions
available at the elementary and secondary level.
There is also a
great need for counselors, psychologists, and speech and language
pathologists. Special education teachers are also sought
by the LAUSD.
The LAUSD is looking
for teachers with full credentials, as well as for teachers
without credentials who are willing to earn an alternative
credential while teaching, according to Murphy Hayden.
The LBUSD is also
looking for teachers at the elementary and secondary levels
for regular and special education instruction. Substitute
teachers are also in high demand, as regular teachers must
go to mandatory training seminars and other staff development
conferences.
The LBUSD is offering
competitive salaries and benefits for teachers with and without
full credentials.
According to the
LBUSD Web site, salaries for beginning teachers with a full
credentials start at $40,515. And benefits include a
full medical, dental, and a vision package.
"Both the LA Unified
and Long Beach Unified are looking for students in all majors
to teach," said Murphy Hayden. "All students graduating
this fall are encouraged to apply."
Also, alternative
credential programs are being offered to students who begin
as full-time teachers without their credential. These
programs allow the student to be a full-time teacher while
taking courses in the evenings to obtain their full credential,
according to Murphy Hayden.
