  • Local election results
Former Cal State Long Beach president and U.S. Representatives incumbent, Republican, Steve Horn has less than a 6,000 vote lead on CSULB instructor, Democrat, Gerrie Schipske with 5.28% of the precincts reporting.

  • No new leads in abduction case
Crime: University Police have produced no arrests in case.

  • Some professors paid less than school teachers
Some full-time associate professors at Cal State Long Beach make less than elementary school teachers, according to California Faculty Association officials.

  • Campus flu shots delayed
Tis the season for coughing, sneezing and a stuffed-up nose. This can mean a cold or worse: the influenza virus.

  • Water training recommended
Two boys fell into the Los Angeles River and drowned Oct. 25 while trying to cross the flood control channel near Anaheim Street.

[opinion]

  • Drug laws screwed
A man was arrested on campus last Tuesday for allegedly possessing more than one ounce of marijuana, which is considered a felony, and was held at Long Beach Jail on $10,000 bail.

  • Pride comes from within, not from autos
Like a helicopter hovering at a low altitude, a thundering sound zeroed in on my surrounding space.

  • Rock leads 49ers in exhibition opener
The game was not as one-sided as a Globetrotter versus Washington Generals game, but the Long Beach State men's basketball team easily dispatched the East Los Angeles All-Stars team 94-79 in an exhibition game to kick off the 2000-2001 season.

  • Weaver's 'guns' cocked and loaded
Her 6-foot-2 frame casts an intimidating shadow from across the net. Opponents cringe when the ball is set to junior middle blocker Cheryl Weaver, as she rifles down kill after lethal kill.
