Reports
The Long
Beach State women's soccer limped home after a weekend
in Fresno with its second loss of the season, falling
2-1 to the University of San Francisco Sunday at the
Fresno State Invitational.
Neither
team connected during the hotly contested first half,
although the 49ers outshot the Lady Dons 8-4.
USF got
on the board first in the 58th minute, when a 35-yard
shot eluded 49er goalkeeper Jihan Elgazzar and trickled
into the net.
Five minutes
later, the Lady Dons added another point to extend
the lead to 2-0.
Long Beach
notched a goal two minutes before the final whistle
when senior Jennifer Reott took a pass from junior
Amber Glende and kicked it into the right side of
the net.
The goal
was Reott's first of the year and seventh in her career
at Long Beach. Glende's assist
gave her five points on the season, tying her with
Lacy Brown for the team lead.
Reott also
had a majority of the scoring chances, with seven
of the 49ers' 19 shots. The Lady Dons tallied
18 shots on goal during the game.
In net
for Long Beach, Elgazzar faced 12 shots and made three
saves before making way for backup Hannah Cochrun,
who faced six shots and made two saves in the final
21 minutes.
The loss
dropped the 49ers' record to 3-2-1. Next up for the
team is the first Big West Conference match of the
season, as LBSU faces Cal State Fullerton at 1 p.m.
Saturday at George Allen Field.
