49ers lose big to Buckeyes

By Gerald Frazier
Daily Forty-Niner

The road did not treat the Long Beach State women's basketball team too well as it took a beating at Ohio State losing by 47 Sunday.

After losing 102-55, the 49ers fell to 1-3 on the season, while the Buckeyes move to 5-0. LBSU senior Jackie Moore scored 16 points and seven boards, leading the 49ers.

Every player that suited up for the Buckeyes scored, with five in double digits. The 49ers only managed to score 22 points in the first half and fell behind 52-22 at the end of the half. The team shot .321(9-28) in the first half, while Ohio blazed the nets shooting .559(19-34). The Buckeyes also managed to hit six of 13 from beyond the arc.

The Beach did manage to shoot .453(24-53) for the game, but could not overcome the 26 turnovers it committed. The Buckeyes scored 40 points off turnovers. The Buckeyes also out rebounded the 49ers 38-25 as they dominated the paint scoring 56 points in the lane.

If that was not enough, The Buckeyes bench manhandled The Beach's bench 43-11. Reserve D'Wan Shackleford scored a game-high 20 points and added nine boards. DiDi Reynolds also came off the bench to score 17 points.

Point guard Jamie Lewis also proved to be too much as she had her way with the 49ers scoring 15 points and dishing out 13 assists. Forward Latoya Turner added 19 points, as the scoring barrage would not end for Ohio.

Reta Sula had 12 points and five boards for the 49ers. Tamara Inoue added 10 points and dished out five assists. Ekuah Ramsey also had 10 points.

LBSU will continue its road trip today, visiting the University of Ohio.
