USD edges LBSU

The University of San Diego narrowly defeated the Long Beach State women's basketball team 62-59 in both teams' season opener Friday at the USD Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the three-point difference, USD handed LBSU its first season-opening loss in four years.

The game was tied 26-26 at the half. In the last few seconds of the game, 49er guard Reta Sula attempted a three-pointer but missed. The Toreros then gained possession of the ball and ran out the clock.

The Beach was led by senior center Jackie Moore, who scored 19 points and eight rebounds. Junior transfer Ekuah Ramsey contributed to the team with 15 points and four rebounds.

Forward Amber Jansen's 21 points and nine rebounds helped lead the Toreros to the win.

The Beach competes in the Maryland Terrapin Classic this weekend.
