The courts
of the north did not treat the Long Beach State women's
volleyball team well this weekend, as it struggled
in a loss to Stanford and held on to beat Idaho to
split the two road matches.
In Saturday's
match against the No. 21 Cardinals, No. 18 LBSU fell
in three games, 15-11, 15-5 and 15-6.
Stanford
(11-6) dominated the match by hitting .349 on the
night, while LBSU (12-5) only hit .112 and committed
29 attack errors.
Cardinal
Olympian Logan Tom hurt the 49ers with 13 kills, six
blocks and eight digs.
Middle
blocker Tayyiba Haneef led LBSU with 11 kills, and
Cheryl Weaver added eight kills.
Setter
Brittany Hochevar paced the 49ers with seven digs
and a .407 attack percentage.
In Thursday's
match at the University of Idaho, the 49ers disposed
of the Vandals, 15-9, 15-6 and 17-15.
Weaver
powered 16 kills past Idaho, and Elisha Thomas had
eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage.
Vandals
players Anna-Marie Hammond and Regan Butler tallied
nine kills each in the losing effort.
Idaho (11-6
overall, 2-4 BWC), is just behind LBSU (4-3 BWC) in
the Big West standings. With nine matches left in
league play, both teams need wins to advance into
the postseason.
The Beach
can extend its home win streak to ten this week with
matches against Cal Poly Thursday and UC Santa Barbara
Saturday. Both matches will begin at 7:30 p.m.
