Weekend full for 49ers

By Lyndsey Shinoda

Next up for the Long Beach State women's volleyball team is    two conference games, tonight against Utah State and Saturday against Boise State, both in The Pyramid at 7:30 p.m.

Utah State (12-3 overall, 4-0 Big West) sits atop the conference in first place, and Boise State (5-7, 1-3) shares the same conference record as the 49ers, who are 9-4, 1-3.

Head Coach Brian Gimmillaro said he is only thinking about the Utah State game for now.

"Utah State has the best team they've had in 25 years," Gimmillaro said.

LBSU may play this weekend's games without outside hitter Sarah Connor, who hurt her knee in the "Dream Team" exhibition.

"Right now we're concerned about Sarah being hurt," Gimmillaro said. "We have to do it without her. The opposition never cares."

On The Beach's side is its home record, which currently stands at 5-0.

Setter Brittany Hochevar said she is confident about her team's abilities.

"We're ready to turn the corner. Hopefully it [the "Dream Team" match] can give us some momentum," Hochevar said. "We can hang with the best of them."
