Athlete of the week

Alumna

Danielle Scott

Hometown: Baton Rouge, La.
Height: 6-foot-2
Position: middle blocker
Years at LBSU: 1990-93

Collegiate notes: Averaged 4.0 kills per game (1778 kills) and 1.4 blocks per game (604 blocks). Left college as the NCAA's all-time leader in attack percentage (.431). One of four women's volleyball players to have her jersey (No. 2) retired upon leaving Long Beach State.

  • 1993 national Player of the Year
  • Member of1993 championship team
  • Three-time All-American
  • Two-time Big West Player of the Year
  • First athlete in Big West history to be named all-conference in two sports (volleyball and basketball).

The two-time Olympian (1996, 2000) led all players on the court Tuesday during the "Dream Team" exhibition match with 23 kills (5.75 per game). She also recorded 14 digs.

 "She's considered the best middle blocker in the world. Besides being a leader of the sport, Danielle is warm, friendly and outgoing. She will always be a close person to me and to the university."
