Long Beach
State women's softball coach Pete Manarino announced
Monday the hiring of Angela Bessolo as assistant coach.
Bessolo
spent last season as an assistant at the University
of Mobile in Alabama. She also spent four months playing
professionally in Verona, Italy. Her duties will include
help with recruiting and working with 49er pitchers.
"We're
very excited to have someone like Angela join our
staff," Manarino said in a press release. "With
her experience, she will be a big asset to our pitchers."
Bessolo
graduated from Lakewood High School in 1995, and was
an All-CIF selection and two-time Long Beach Press-Telegram
Softball Athlete of the Year.
In her
collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame,
Bessolo had a career record of 53-31 and a 1.68 ERA.
She was also Co-Rookie of the Year in the Big East
in 1996, a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association All-Mideast Region second team in 1997,
and a second team All-Big East selection in 1999.
"I'm
so thankful for having an opportunity to be back in
southern California," Bessolo said in a press
release. "I look forward to learning from (assistant
coach) Kim Sowder and Coach Manarino."
