State's men's water polo team is on a two-week break
from league play while Head Coach Rick Azevedo is
in Sydney to watch his son play at the Olympics.
Even though
no games are scheduled until UC Santa Barbara visits
campus Oct. 7, the 49ers will continue to train under
the tutelage of Azevedo's assistants.
"We're
going to continue to work on our transition game,
and we'll also be spending a lot of time lifting weights
to try to build up our strength," Team Captain
Chris Segesman said. "We're only
at 20 percent of where we should be."
After placing
seventh last weekend at the Southern California Tournament,
the team will work on skills and strategies during
the break.
"We
didn't necessarily expose ourselves to any weaknesses
this weekend, but we noticed a few areas that we can
improve," said junior Rick Bejune. "The
only major concern is our counter defense. That we
hope to work on a lot over the next two weeks.
