Politics, WWF strange mixture

The World Wrestling Federation's champion The Rock and woman wrestler Chyna were at the Democratic National Convention in August. The Rock kicked off the Republican National Convention with his famous eyebrow a month earlier.

How nice, but why?

It seems to be more of a political situation than anything. The Parent Television Council is breathing down the wrestling federation's neck to try and get them to tone down its act.

And who supports the Parent Television Council? Generally, conservative Republicans. So it makes perfect sense.

Professional wrestling is known for its teenage themes of sexual teasing and cartoonish violence. A recent WWF pay-per-view-event, Summerslam, featured a thong ass face match with The Kat (along with Al Snow and Head) taking on Terri Runnels (with Perry Saturn). When one of the women put their butt in the other's face, she was declared the winner. So, the PTC had something to complain about on this night. And by the way, The Kat won.

Obviously associating with Republicans, where The Rock was a featured attraction, would help its cause immensely. With the "hip" WWF product behind them, the Republicans can reach the young adults their so desperately searching for. This translates to their votes, which means their politicians are in office.

Vince McMahon, the owner of the WWF, obviously doesn't want his product shut down. So it makes sense to network with rich Republicans who have their immense clout.

And according to the WWF's own statistics, the Smackdown Your Vote Web Site has registered more than 40,000 voters.

So the voting count makes McMahon's company look like a potential goldmine. Or at least bigger than the state of Wyoming. McMahon is looking at the future of his company. If he wants to stay in business, he needs to control, or at least have influence on Capital Hill.

Interesting enough, Al Gore's wife, Tipper, is on the PTC council. But, once again, The Rock and Chyna were at the DNC telling people to smackdown their vote.

But why should the fans be involved with McMahon's politicking?

Why should we be subjected to trying to decipher whether The Rock is Democratic or Republican?

His job is to entertain, not to tell us which party to vote for. Or even to vote, for that matter.

When you watch a wrestling match, you want to be entertained by the wrestler's performance, not their political affiliation.

Teachers don't tell us who to vote for, or even to vote. Why should wrestling federations?
