Maxson
urges students to vote
Dear 49ers:
I urge
you to vote in this month's national election. Certainly
it is not my role nor my place to suggest to you how
to vote. College students represent a significant
potential voting population. No citizen is better
informed than you are because of your studies here
on campus and your interaction with each other.
We are electing our president, and possible U.S. Supreme
Court appointments are at stake as well as other key
positions and propositions which are important to
Californians.
In the
same spirit, within a short time campus students will
be participating in student government campaigns.
I strongly support student government. It has a legitimate
voice, and it does make a difference on this campus.
I encourage
you to get involved in that rewarding process. You
need to be sure to find out the qualifications that
are required and the deadlines. Students do have a
voice in how their university works. Certainly the
Daily Forty-Niner is one way that students can express
opinions and provide input about campus issues. Another
way is through the student government process.
I have
a student advisory group of about 20 students whom
I meet with on a regular basis. If you have any issues
that you'd like to discuss, you can send an email
to me at rmaxson@csulb.edu or to your student
government office at rgarcia@csulb.edu. Suggestions
may also be turned into the ASI office on the third
floor of the University Student Union.
I hope
that your mid-terms went well!
Go
BEACH!
