Maxson sends congrats

Dear 49ers:

I send my heartiest congratulations to the 29 students in our Criminal Justice program who were selected to handle security at the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles last month.

Congratulations are also in order for professor Harvey Morley who was responsible for Cal State Long Beach students being selected for this prestigious assignment.

Out of all California universities, only Cal State Long Beach was nominated to participate for the 2000 DNC security program.

When I met with our new students during the summer Student Orientation and Advising and Registration sessions, I urged all of them to get involved in 49er activities.

I'm excited to see a lot of different student clubs and organizations setting up their booths to welcome new and returning students and to encourage students to get involved in their programs.

I want to continue to urge you to take advantage of the many worthwhile organizations and rewarding activities on campus.

On Monday, Associated Students Inc. held a student orientation session for commissions and committees. It is still not too late if you're interested in serving as a commissioner.

If you'd like more information about the various student commissions, contact Linda Sherwood at 985-5241 in the student government office.

If you want to see democracy in action, check out the ASI meetings on Wednesday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. in the Senate office.   This is the very best way that you can find out about how your elected campus officials develop policies and represent your interests in all university programs.

Women's volleyball, women's soccer and men's water polo will be playing on campus this weekend.

Remember that all games are free to students; all that you need is your Beach card.

I would love to have you join me in supporting the 49er teams.

Go BEACH!

Sincerely,
Robert C. Maxson
President
