Welcome
back to The Beach
Dear 49ers:
Welcome
back to The BEACH!
I have
missed all of you guys, and I am delighted that the
new school year term is starting. I want to
wish you a great fall semester here at The BEACH!
I look
forward to seeing all of you who have been away for
the summer and renewing our friendships. For
our new Forty-Niners-freshmen and transfers-whom I
met during the new student orientation sessions this
summer, I look forward to getting to know you better.
We'll have about 31, 500 students here for the fall
semester, which includes almost 4,000 freshmen.
I would
like for you to get involved in your university.
School spirit is great at The BEACH! Students
here call it Beach Pride, but for most of the students
and for their president, Beach Pride is more than
a slogan-Beach Pride is a state of mind.
If you're
looking to fill your event calendar for the Labor
Day weekend here is a schedule of upcoming sports.
The Cal
State Long Beach Women's Soccer team will play against
Nevada on Thursday at 3 p.m.; the 49ers Women's Volleyball
team-ranked No. 2 in the nation-will compete against
St. Mary's on Friday 7:30 p.m.; and then our Men's
Water Polo will have a scrimmage at the campus pool
Saturday at noon.
Take care
of your school work first, then in your free time
attend as many of the performances, plays, sporting
events, concerts, dances, museum exhibits and other
campus activities as you can.
And be
sure to pick up your Daily Forty-Niner student paper
each time you're on campus. Your student newspaper
enjoys a well-earned reputation under the solid leadership
of Wes Woods II and his talented staff members.
Your student paper provides up-to-the-minute news
listing of campus and local community events as well
as important coverage of issues affecting college
students.
Have a
great semester, and I'll see you around campus.
Go BEACH!
Sincerely,
Robert C. Maxson
President
