The Associated
Students Senate is planning for the future.
During
its first official meeting last Wednesday, the A.S.
Senate announced it is creating a task force to improve:
dealing with Senate objectives, parking, legislative
awareness, increasing constituent interaction, admissions
policies and possibly getting untaxed textbooks for
students.
Mike Hostetler,
associate vice president for student services and
dean of students, discussed Cal State Long Beach's
scheduled ten-year accreditation by the Western Accreditation
Association. This fall, five members of the A.S. Senate
will form a task group to prepare the university for
accreditation, he said. Three committees, formed by
senators, will help with the accreditation process
in the spring semester.
An attendance
policy for students at CSULB, which includes tardiness
and excused absence issues, was discussed and is also
being reviewed.
Other items
addressed at the meeting included the following:
Students
are invited to attend Planting Trees 2000, a tree
planting and mural dedication from 8-11 a.m. on Sept.
16.
The senators
went to a Lake Arrowhead retreat that focused on goals
and objectives on Aug. 19 and 20 and prepared them
for the fall semester.
The A.S.
Senate has 20 of 21 positions filled, with an applicant
being reviewed for the 21st position.
